In the context of the construction of the photographic series “Bembé do Mercado: A Festa dos Olhos do Rei” in 2021, with the COVID-19 pandemic, an important dimension of the celebration became more evident than in previous years: the candomblé house experience. It is about this aspect of the centenary celebration that the images entitled “Resenhas do Bembé” deal with.
Beyond any romantic vision, everything in the candomblé yard refers to the house, to family relationships: from love to hierarchies, from affection to disagreement, from acceptance to responsibility, from glories to challenges... their tasks, occupying rooms with their activities, waiting for the completion of those of others in coordination with the divine, is a source of stimuli for the look. A concrete poetics in each action, each song, each brother, mobilizing together all the strength of what we know as axé.
The set of images produced in the interior of llè Axé Ojú Onirè, the terreiro that hosted the liturgical acts of Bembé 202I, depict the private, little-seen performance of the celebration.
This series won the editorial and artistic action “Meio Cura Festivalizar”, in Mexico.
